PRO TIP: THE DAILY PLAN

Welcome to the first installment of Program Design Pro Tips! These weekly tips from the CoachRx team will help you upgrade your program design systems and skills. Be sure to try each tip as you sit down to program for the week to come.

The Daily Plan

Take the time to write a daily plan (aka training split) for each client at the beginning of every new cycle, so that you have a skeleton guiding you and you aren’t guessing when it comes to writing their weekly program design.
Include the movement patterns and type of energy system training that will be performed on the day. We recommend using title case to indicate compound exercises (e.g. Squat) and lowercase to indicate accessories (e.g. core). Use commas to separate daily priorities to separate tags in the calendar.
For example:

Monday - Squat, Pull (h), bend, push (v), lunge, core

Tuesday - MAP 8 (cyclical)

Wednesday - Bend, Push (h), lunge, pull (v), squat, core

Thursday - Active Recovery

Friday - Lunge, Pull (v), squat, push, bend, core

Saturday - MAP 8 (cyclical)

Sunday - Rest

In CoachRx, the daily plan is displayed on the calendar at the top of each training day as a reminder of the daily priorities for each client. Your client will also see these tags in their app to help them understand what they are working on day-to-day.

To start building a daily plan for your client:
  1. Click Planning & Periodization in the sidebar
  2. Create/open a Long-Term Plan
  3. Create a Short-Term Plan
  4. Write the Daily Plan (the days displayed will align with the client’s training schedule. Update this to see different days). The Daily Plan will apply for the entire duration of the Short-Term Plan.

If you’re not currently creating daily plans for all of your clients, we challenge you to give it a try this week! While it may take a bit of time on the front end to get used to, it will save you time and keep the design focused as you progress through each short-term plan, so you don’t lose track of each client’s training priorities. With practice, designing a daily plan will only take a few minutes.
